UNDERSECRETARY MORELLI VISITS OLYMPIC CONSTRUCTION SITES IN LIVIGNO
Inspection at Laghetto Monte Sponda and the new Livigno Snow Park: strategic works in anticipation of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, combining technological innovation and sustainability.
Livigno, August 21, 2025 – The Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council, Alessandro Morelli, visited the Olympic construction sites in Livigno this morning, accompanied by the Government Commissioner and CEO of SIMICO, Fabio Massimo Saldini, Mayor Remo Galli, and President of Livigno Next, Luca Moretti.
The inspection focused on Laghetto Monte Sponda, one of the largest earthfill dams in Europe (203,000 cubic meters), which will ensure snow coverage for the Mottolino area, and the new Livigno Snow Park with a 500-space parking lot integrated into the Olympic snowboard and freestyle slopes.
Work is proceeding regularly and will be completed by November 2025, with some environmental restoration works planned for spring 2026. The visit concluded with a press point at the Mottolino construction site.
“An underground parking lot with 550 spaces and the largest and tallest dam in Europe will be two of the goals achieved in preparation for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, a great gift for the territories that, after the international event, will make Livigno one of the world capitals of alpine sports,” said Undersecretary of State Alessandro Morelli, expressing satisfaction with the progress of the works in view of the Games.
“I thank Undersecretary Morelli for the unwavering support over these months and the personal closeness expressed to the Livigno community," said Fabio Massimo Saldini. “Overall, the Livigno Snow Park is one of the most interesting Olympic construction sites from a technological standpoint: for those involved, it has represented the greatest challenges, but it has found exceptional people and workers who have worked tirelessly, even during the winter period when temperatures in Livigno are prohibitive, thawing the ice and achieving the set goals. I am very proud of this technological jewel that not only represents an opportunity to improve local mobility but is unique compared to the infrastructures of the Games. It has never happened before that a parking lot integrates with the slopes in a true compenetration between territory and Olympic event.”
