The legend of Italian alpine skiing Alberto Tomba will be the star of an evening dedicated to sports, commitment, and passion, on Friday, October 24 at 8:30 PM, at the Cinema Mignon in Tirano (SO). The meeting, which is free to enter and open to everyone, is primarily aimed at young athletes and students and will offer the opportunity to hear the champion share his experiences and the values linked to sports.

Born in San Lazzaro di Savena in 1966, Alberto Tomba is considered one of the greatest skiers of all time. A specialist in technical disciplines, he has collected 50 World Cup victories (35 in slalom and 15 in giant) and eight specialty cups, in addition to the overall World Cup in 1995.
A winner of five Olympic medals – three golds (Calgary 1988 and Albertville 1992) and two silvers (Albertville 1992 and Lillehammer 1994) – Tomba has marked an era for Italian skiing thanks to his talent and charisma.
Unforgettable was the victory on March 18, 1995 in Bormio, on the Stelvio track, during the World Cup finals: a triumph that earned him the overall crystal globe, bringing Italy back to the highest step of the world twenty years after Gustav Thöni. A success that remains etched in the collective memory and in the sporting history of Valtellina. An example of dedication, consistency, and success: a champion who always inspires and engages.

With Alberto Tomba will also be present Antonio Rossi, Olympic canoeing champion with five Olympic medals (three golds and two bronzes from Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, and Athens 2004), bringing the total to ten Olympic medals overall on the stage of Tirano. Rossi is also the new president of the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation (FICK) and City Operations Manager for the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation.

Alongside these two legends of Italian sport will be Lucia Blini, sports journalist and deputy director of Sport Mediaset, and Francesca Ambrosini, Mediaset journalist who will lead the evening as a moderator.

Sport as a school of life

The meeting on October 24 will also be an opportunity to reflect on the importance of sport as a tool for growth, socialization, and well-being for new generations.
The presence of great champions like Tomba and Rossi will offer young people a strong message: sport is not just competition, but also discipline, respect, sacrifice, and passion.
In a territory like Valtellina, which has always made sport a strength and identity, the initiative represents an invitation to believe in one’s dreams, to commit with consistency, and to cultivate those values that make sport a true school of life.

The event is promoted by the Media Valtellina Tourism Consortium in collaboration with the Province of Sondrio, the Comune di Tirano, and the Bormio Foundation, and is born with the aim of bringing young people closer to the world of sport and its educational values. The evening will include moments of dialogue, stories of sporting life, and meetings with local realities.

Towards the 2026 Winter Olympics

An event that anticipates a moment of great pride for the territory: in the first days of February 2026 Tirano will host the passage of the Olympic torch, bringing to the heart of Media Valtellina the enthusiasm and energy of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
A concrete sign of the deep bond between Valtellina and sport, as we wait to experience the Olympic atmosphere.
