ANCIENT CRAFTS: CADREGAT: EXPERT IN BUILDING AND REEDING CHAIRS
Who was the cadregat?
He was a craftsman who usually came from outside the province by train and walked through the various districts: in Valtellina, he stayed for quite a long time.
He asked for hospitality from various clients: if he arrived in winter, they would put him to sleep in the stable, if in summer, in the hayloft.
He carried out his task in a corner reserved for him in the house.
The main users of his services were wealthy or rich people.
Equipment: sega raséga, pialla piunii, trapano manuale girabichii, martello martèel, scure segurèel, coltelli curtèei, interchangeable bits of various sizes for the “trapano” poonti and a curved blade at one end, with two handles positioned vertically with respect to the blade dulii.
He carried his tools in a bag that he threw over one shoulder.
Material: wood, wooden nails (he made them directly on site) and straw obtained from rye.
Generally, the material was provided by the client.
