Morbegno in cantina: sales on the rise, great interest in new products

Fri, 19/09/2025 - news

Just over a week before the debut of the 2025 edition of Morbegno in Cantina, the days leading up to the event are filled with expectations for the new features introduced, in a well-established formula, and for the positive trend in pass sales, which are slightly up compared to last year.

The first event is scheduled for the last weekend of September, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28, and for the first two weekends of October, 4 and 5 and 11 and 12.

The event, promoted by the Municipality of Morbegno, which has entrusted the organization to the Consorzio Turistico Porte di Valtellina, combines the excellence of Valtellinese wines and other traditional products with the rarefied atmosphere of old cellars and the courtyards of ancient palaces. An experience of aromas and flavors, discovering history and traditions, expressed in the four Giri, which are the itineraries with tasting stops.

“We can’t wait to kick off this new edition and present the introduced novelties that are creating a lot of curiosity - said the president of the Tourist Consortium, Viola Vanini –. Morbegno in Cantina has established itself for its quality offering, for its selection of wines, and for the pairings with other products and traditional dishes, but it is also very much appreciated for the characteristic places that host the tastings and the warm welcome of the volunteers. The itineraries become a discovery of our gastronomic excellences and the history of the city: it is this binomial that distinguishes Morbegno in Cantina.”

In the coming weeks, Morbegno will be in the spotlight. “The event – highlights the mayor Patrizio Del Nero – represents an important reference point for Morbegno both for the enhancement of typical agricultural products, primarily wine, and for the promotion of the city and territory. The cellars, with the various routes, are the emotional heart of the city that many visitors will be able to appreciate on this unique occasion. In recent years, the tourist destinations that have seen the greatest growth are those that have been able to make gastronomy an added value. Combining typicality with the excellences of our territory - which also involves the environment, cycle tourism, and cultural and monumental beauty - is the best recipe for success. Our producers are certainly the most important capital to support, and the best way is to give value to their work and their products. In this edition, the program also aims for a better enhancement of the city and its historical and cultural curiosities. Many volunteers are collaborating to ensure the best organization, coordinated by the Consorzio Turistico Porte di Valtellina along with the Local Police and law enforcement, to all of them my personal thanks. The city – concludes Del Nero – is very pleased to host this great event and contribute to achieving the best result.”

The first novelties can be found in the Giri, which are even more characterized than in previous years. Loyal visitors of Morbegno in Cantina will find:

  • the Giro Rosso, dedicated to full-bodied red wines and Nebbiolo, in the Chiavennasca variety, the most authentic expression of Valtellinese winemaking, with wines representing all the subzones of Valtellina Superiore Docg: Maroggia, Sassella, Grumello, Inferno, and Valgella;
  • the Giro Bolle, whites and reds, for those who prefer a lighter and more convivial experience, with a selection of less structured Valtellinese wines: classic method sparkling wines, aromatic whites, and young reds;
  • the new Giro Rock, making its debut, which offers tastings of the most innovative wines produced by creative wineries;
  • the Giro Oro '26, the most sparkling, a tribute to the international fame of Valtellina, which will host the Winter Olympics Milano-Cortina: an exclusive itinerary in seven stops (one more than the other three) to encounter selected wines in exclusive locations, culminating in the “Peccato a Palazzo” and enjoying a pairing that seduces among the frescoes of Palazzo Malacrida, an architectural jewel of the Valtellinese Renaissance.

This new proposal, which can be experienced even by those choosing one of the other itineraries by purchasing an additional pass, is generating great interest among those who - and there are many, mostly from outside the province - have already planned to participate in one of the three weekends.

There are 36 labels to taste, 20 wineries represented, and 25 tasting points managed by associations. The volunteers will take care of the setup and management of the cellars, welcoming the participants.

The cellars will be open:

  • Saturday, from 16:00 to 22:00
  • Sunday, from 12:00 to 18:00

Music will accompany an experience that should be enjoyed with lightness and slowness, dedicating the necessary time to capture every nuance of the wines, which will be presented by sommeliers from AIS and ONAV, along with tastings of local typical products, walking through the historic center, going down into the cellars and back up in the courtyards, from one stop to another. Music points along the itineraries will be animated by local groups.

Another important novelty is represented by collateral initiatives dedicated to movement: the more meditative one, with yoga, and the more energetic one, but without tiring too much, with e-bikes. For both experiences, to be enjoyed by purchasing the respective pass, after the movement there will be a tasting:

  • for yoga, offered in four sessions on Saturday mornings, the venue will be Palazzo Malacrida;
  • for the bike rides, the destination will be the vineyards surrounding Morbegno, crossing the ponte di Ganda and climbing towards Cerido, where the Museo della Vinificazione is located with the ancient press.

For eating pizzoccheri and polenta with mountain salami, visitors return to the city, in the south cloister of the former convent of Sant'Antonio.

During the event, a sales point will be operating in via Pretorio and three stations for collecting pre-sale tickets: in addition to via Pretorio, in piazza Bossi (in front of the station) and in piazza Sant'Antonio.
