Historical Gallery of the Firefighters of Chiavenna
In the historic center of Chiavenna, there is the Historical Gallery of the Firefighters, a small museum dedicated to the history of the fire brigade, unique in its kind in the province of Sondrio. Inside, vintage vehicles, equipment, uniforms, and items used in various interventions are on display: concrete testimonies of a profession made of commitment, risk, and service to the community.
Every vehicle, every tool tells a piece of local and national history, offering visitors a glimpse into the past and the evolution of the work of the Firefighters. A place to visit to rediscover the value of memory and the meaning of the word “protection.”
🔥 Where it all began
This gallery was born from true passion, the kind that never fades. It is carried on by a group of former firefighters from Valchiavenna who, over the years, have carefully collected extraordinary vintage vehicles, equipment, and historical documents, bringing life back to fundamental pieces of Italian rescue history.
Among the highlights? An absolute rarity: the FIAT Brevetti fire engine from 1908, considered the oldest in Italy. Just this alone would be worth a visit.
👨🚒 Claudio Persenico: the art of miniature memory
But what truly impresses and captivates is the room of handcrafted models. Behind every miniature vehicle is the patient and precise hand of Claudio Persenico, former head of the Firefighters of Chiavenna.
In his free time, Claudio has crafted over 90 scale 1:14 models, rebuilt in minute detail. Each piece is a faithful replica, made with touching dedication: pumps, ladders, tarps, logos, paints, accessories. Everything is handmade.
A meticulous job, started out of passion and now a cultural heritage for the entire province of Sondrio.
