The program of Inverno in Valgerola offers, between December and February, many events dedicated to families, children, and enthusiasts of alpine traditions in the towns of the valley. From Christmas activities to nativity scenes, from theatrical performances to snow walks, each date is an opportunity to discover the authentic atmosphere of these villages in Valtellina.
On Saturday December 20 in Regoledo, "Waiting for Christmas" is scheduled, an afternoon for families in the schoolyard with gift exchanges, songs, and sweets. On Sunday December 21 in Piagno, the living nativity takes place, while on Wednesday December 24 in Gerola Alta, the living nativity enlivens the historic center, followed by the Midnight Mass and the bonfire in the square. On Saturday December 27 in Gerola Alta – Palagerola, the theatrical show "The Town of the Zittelli" by the company "Il Caminetto" from Ardenno will be staged, ideal for those who love popular theater.
On Monday December 29 in Gerola Alta, the Ecomuseum presents "Ecomuseum with Family," an afternoon in the conference room filled with games, workshops, and projections dedicated to the territory. On Friday January 2 in Rasura, there’s the traditional tombola, while on Saturday January 3 in Gerola Alta, the Christmas concert featuring an organist and choir takes place in the parish church. On Monday January 5 in Gerola Alta and Pedesina, the Befana arrives to visit the children, with snacks, tombola, and pizzoccheri at Piccolo Paese, amidst festivities and local specialties.
On Saturday February 28 in Gerola Alta, a night snowshoe hike is planned to discover the valley under the starry sky. Throughout the period, one can visit numerous nativity scenes in the towns of Valgerola, the "Way of the Nativity" in Gerola with over a hundred representations, the town’s museums open from January 2 to 5, the treasure hunt "The Spirit of Christmas," and the route "Christmas with Open Doors" featuring images and Christmas atmospheres. "Christmas with Taste" is also included, with typical menus, events, and tastings in the valley’s restaurants and lodges, for a winter to be experienced among culture, flavors, and traditions.
Gerola Alta è l'ultimo comune della Valgerola. Situato a 1053 m., oltre a Gerola (Piazza) numerose sono le frazioni che si addentrano nella parte alta della valle: Fenile, Nasoncio, Ravizze, Castello, Laveggiolo, La Foppa, La Roia, La Corna, Cassinelle, per citare le principali. La frazione Pescegallo ospita l'unica stazione sciistica del mandamento con impianti di risalita operanti sia in estate che in inverno. Piccoli agglomerati rurali che presentano al visitatore interessanti spaccati di architettura alpina. Il paesaggio qui diventa dolce ed accogliente, i boschi di faggi e castagni lasciano pian piano il posto alle pinete. La montagna si fa più accogliente e godibile in ogni stagione: con le riposanti passeggiante, con le escursioni al Pizzo Tre Signori, ai suoi laghi o agli alpeggi ancora caricati dove si produce il rinomato formaggio Bitto (a marchio Dop).
