Path of Memory: a journey between history and nature in Sondrio
The Path of Memory is a circular route that winds for about 11.6 km in the territory of Sondrio, offering an immersion in the history and nature of Valtellina. With an elevation gain of about 570 meters and an average duration of 5-6 hours, the trail is suitable for hikers with a minimum level of training.
🗺️ Itinerary
The route starts from the Palazzo Sassi de' Lavizzari, home of the Valtellinese Museum of History and Art, and passes through places of historical and cultural interest.
- Castel Masegra: ancient fortification with origins in 1048, now home to the museum dedicated to the domination of the Three Grey Leagues over Valtellina.
- Chiesa di San Bartolomeo and former convent of San Lorenzo: testimonies of local religious history.
- Plaque of Lieutenant Colonel Edoardo Alessi: commemoration of an officer who fell during the Resistance.
- Frazione di Colombera: small inhabited area with panoramic views of the valley.
- Chiesa della Madonna della Sassella: Marian sanctuary located on a rocky promontory.
